FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
12/12/2003 - Gulfport, MS - Official Release Related to Comments that Dodge-Ball is a Dangerous Sport.
From Rusty Walker, Executive Director of The International Dodge-Ball Federation-
In recent weeks, many in the National Media have called our office asking for our 'official' comments regarding talk that the sport we love is dangerous and should be banned. Our official comment follows,
"Are you crazy!?? "
When played by the rules and officiated/supervised by a competent adult, the game of dodge-ball is very safe. In addition, the sport teaches great hand-to-eye coordination, is an excellent aerobic exercise, and is a very inclusive sport with regard to height, weight, and sex of participants. You don't have to be 6'-5" to play, you don't have to be able to bench press 250 pounds, and girls can legitimately compete with and against boys. In addition- most KIDS LOVE IT!
Of course, any sport that is played with the wrong equipment, is unsupervised, or played without common-sense rules can be dangerous. But with the recent national comments from leading medical groups (World Health Organization Report- click here, Health and Human Services Report- click here) stating the largest health problem facing children today is a sedentary lifestyle, shouldn't more kids be playing dodge-ball?
